I love Mr Big.
From Eric Martin’s powerhouse vocals, to the dynamite playing of one of my biggest guitar heroes, Paul Gilbert, the “lead bassist” style of Billy Sheehan and the man with the drum chops to keep up with all of them, Pat Torpey, they’ve made some of my favourite music to come out of that 80s era. Back when you could have killer rock tracks but power ballads were just as important (maybe more!).
To some extent, the legacy of Mr Big has been similar to that of Extreme – to the wider public, they’re known for THAT song (To Be With You, vs Extreme’s More Than Words) and their back catalogue goes largely forgotten, except for us diehards still living in the 80s.
After a long hiatus in 2011 they released What If which featured some rocking tunes with a bit more of a modern feel to them.
Now, the much awaited follow-up The Stories We Could Tell is set to be released on September 22!!
Eric Martin says:
“To me this is the album that we threatened to make decades ago. A classic, grooving, blues-rock record with the spirit and spark of our rock and soul idols from the 70s.
“It’s a Mr Big album complete with all the trimmings. I think whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or just starting, you’re going to dig where we are coming from and where we’ve been.”
I’m pretty excited!

Who else is looking forward to this album??
